Community conference on
​disaster related research

The NOLA Partnership for Mental Health joins the team at LSUHSC-New Orleans to host a second conference on August 9th about why is it important for community to be involved in disaster-related research, especially in the context of serious mental illness. This will include guests from Los Angeles to discuss Community Partners In Care (CPIC), and results from Resilience Against Depression Disparities (RADD).

The NOLA Partnership for Mental Health joins the C-LEARN team

The NOLA Partnership for Mental Health joins the C-LEARN team at LSUHSC-New Orleans to lead a project selected for an Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award. The funding is to be used to help develop a skilled community of patients and other stakeholders from across the entire healthcare enterprise and involve them in a meaningful way in every aspect of PCORI’s work. BUILDING ADVOCACY IN TIMES OF AUSTERITY:   ADVOCATING FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Participants learned about  state budget issues,  housing crises, and national health reform. They also engaged in   a skills-building workshop  on advocating for mental health services at the local, state, and national level.

​Participants and panelists discussed the phenomenon of transinstitutionalization (moving of people with mental illness from long-term care facilities to prisons) and current issues surrounding criminalization of the mentally ill in our community.

our 1st Community mental health forum - In our own voice

Our conference featured a special presentation from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) New Orleans Chapter titled "In Our Own Voice". Two individuals shared their personal stories of living with mental illness and their journey to recovery. The presentation was followed by a panel discussion on current issues facing those living with mental illness in New Orleans.
